The French customs authorities introduced a system called Pablo, which enables shoppers to buy taxfree products in local shops very easily.
With Pablo, local shops in Paris can issue a voucher each time a non EU resident buys a product in its shop. With that voucher, consumers get their VAT refunded when they leave the French territory. This is called « détaxe », or tax free shopping.
In order to get their taxes refunded, consumers just have to clear their Pablo vouchers at dedicated kiosks when they leave France. Pablo Kiosks can be found in terminals at airports, such as Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly.
The French customs authorities impose a few conditions to be able to buy dutyfree products:
-You are a private person aged above 16
-The buying is made for your private consumption (not for resale)
-You are not a resident of the European Union (EU)
-The minimum amount purchased per day is €175
-Buying Taxfree alcoholic beverages or tobacco is not allowed
Pablo Taxrefund kiosks are mainly located at airports in international terminals.

When the vouchers are cleared, the Pablo system informs the shops (or the tax free operators) that the consumer left France with the products, and the VAT is refunded to the consumer. The amount is credited automatically, so that tax free shopping is very easy.
